Professor Sukumar Sen, renowned for his profound scholarship in Bengali Language and Literature, also penned several detective stories. Interestingly, his detective protagonist is the great poet Kalidasa, with stories set in the first two centuries AD. While Kalidasa’s wit often features in folk tales, Sukumar Sen suggests that if detective stories had existed back then, they would have been part of our literary heritage. This collection of five of his lesser-known detective stories has now been published for readers to enjoy.
